Program description and what is included

English Plus is a semi-intensive course with 22.5 hours of study per week. Students can create a more intensive study programme by choosing 1 or 2 optional academic academies per week. This course takes place at Lancing College which was founded in 1848. The campus is located on a hill with wonderful views of the sea, the city of Brighton and Shoreham Airport. With its famous gothic chapel creating an air of magic and mystery, the College is built around two quadrangles in a similar style to the Oxford and Cambridge University colleges. This location is ideal for more independent teenagers.

English Skills focus on developing students' general knowledge of English and ability to communicate effectively and accurately in everyday situations and different contexts. Students will be tested, challenged, supported and stimulated.

Enrichment Lessons expose students to authentic learning materials and language and challenge them to interact naturally in English while enhancing their language skills.

Research Projects get students involved in their own learning, allowing them to choose a project that interests them which they will research, plan, implement and evaluate, working as part of a team.

Description

Lancing College has been running summer courses for 13 to 17-year-olds for many years. Lancing College is one of England's most prestigious boarding schools, dating back to 1848. The school occupies a beautiful 550-acre area in the South of England, close to the resort town of Brighton. London is about 1.5 hours away. The Gothic style of the school's main old buildings evokes a magical atmosphere. The newly built music school, swimming pool, theatre and library buildings, as well as the art studio and computer centre, are part of the beautiful architectural fabric of the school.

Study programme
English Plus: 30 lessons of English tuition per week, Monday to Friday (22.5 hours).

On the first day, you will be tested. Test results are used to place students into groups according to their English level. Students with at least English level A2 are accepted. The maximum class size is 14 students. All language skills are stressed, with an emphasis on fluency. At the end of the programme, you'll receive a certificate.

Every week students get to talk about what they will see on their excursion. The programme also includes five project-based activities. They get into pairs or groups and make newspapers, write poems, and songs, make sketches, etc. All projects are evaluated. The children receive prizes for the best work!

Students aged 13-17 coming to Lancing have the opportunity to prepare for the Cambridge FCE and CAE exams as well as take these exams at the end of their course.
